Be a Volunteer

History Nebraska believes that volunteers are an irreplaceable asset!

Our success depends on highly dedicated volunteers to fill critical roles. Most volunteer positions are available in Lincoln with others available in Omaha and at our Historic Sites.

Volunteers must be able to commit at least four months of time, once a week. One-on-one training will be provided. Volunteers range in age from upper elementary students to senior citizens.

As a volunteer, you will receive benefits, including:

  • Parking validation while volunteering
  • 20% discount at our stores
  • Invitations to special exhibits and openings
  • Opportunities for fun and educational tours
  • Interaction with great people
  • Volunteer appreciation activities

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer with History Nebraska, email Amanda Pinkelman (amanda.pinkelman@nebraska.gov) or call 402-471-4782.

Current History Nebraska Volunteer Opportunities

Collections Division Volunteer Opportunities

The Collections Division is a treasure-trove of primary source material relating to every aspect of Nebraska's history. The Collections Division provides a one-of-a-kind "laboratory" for the practice of the historian's, the archivist's, and museum specialist’s craft. By working with the collections, a student intern gains both practical experience in museum/archival work and insight into using primary source materials for research.
