BACKGROUND NOTE

According to the policy statement contained in the first folder of this collection, the Lincoln Legion of Lesbians was an action-oriented Lesbian-Feminist collective dedicated to working within the lesbian, feminist and other communities to educate people about the realities of their lives as lesbians and to dispel myths and misconceptions about lesbianism, and to provide cultural, political and artistic events for the lesbian and feminist communities.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of three boxes of records relating to the Lincoln Legion of Lesbians (Lincoln, Nebraska).  Items include newsletters, event fliers, policy information, brochures, business cards and newspaper clippings.  The collection also includes materials collected by members of the Lincoln Legion of Lesbians produced by related organizations in Nebraska and other states.  The materials in the collection date from ca. 1976 to 1992.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
