BACKGROUND NOTE
Born on April 26, 1892, at Fillmore, Missouri, Wilber Dale Clark was the son of Samuel and Catherine (Sayres) Clark. He married Ethel Johnston at St. Joseph, Missouri, on August 31, 1915. He got his first banking job as a clerk in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Clarks moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and Wilber got a job at the Omaha National Bank in 1919. He worked his way up and eventually served as bank president and chairman of the board. He retired from Omaha National Bank in 1962. Mrs. Clark died in 1955. After the death of his first wife, Wilber married Katherine Doorly Young, widowed daughter of Henry Doorly.
Wilber joined the board of the Omaha World-Herald in 1959. He served on the board until the newspaper was sold in 1966. He was involved in various organizations including the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Elks, the University of Omaha Board of Regents, etc. He also served on the Business Advisory Council of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Union Pacific Railroad board of directors. After retiring, the Clarks moved to Palm Springs, California, where Wilber died on January 28, 1975. W. Dale Clark is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of three scrapbooks relating to the career, civic and social activities of W. Dale Clark. Items in the scrapbooks date from ca. 1929 to 1958 and include newspaper clippings, event programs, photographs, booklets, certificates and other ephemera. The first volume relates to Clark’s banking career, as well as various civic and social activities. A partial index is contained at the front of the scrapbook. The second volume mostly relates to the Business Advisory Council and the Union Pacific Railroad. The list scrapbook relates to miscellaneous topics.
Note: The scrapbooks are in poor condition. Many of the items have become loose and are falling out of the scrapbooks. Researchers are asked to handle the scrapbooks carefully.
