SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of manuscript material arranged in two series: 1) Correspondence, 1917-1918; 2) Statements, 1919-1920.

The bulk of this collection dates to the attempts of the American Potash Company to secure mineral leases on school boundaries in Nebraska. The correspondence is between officers of the company and the Commissioner of Public Lands and Buildings. Also included are statements regarding sections of school land and amounts of Potash produced. Correspondence relates to applications for mineral leases on public lands.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
