SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



Arnold Harold Galvin was a flying instructor for the Lincoln Flying School from 1927-ca. 1933. Galvin lived in Nebraska until 1941. The manuscript portion of the collection includes a World War II ration book, ca. 1943, and materials relating to Galvin’s life in aeronautics.



The photo component [RG4882.PH] includes 113 photographs. Many of the photographs are of the Lincoln Flying School and the Galvin Family. Also included are photographs of airplanes and automobiles from the 1920s and 1930s.



The moving image component [RG4882.MI] includes three 8mm films of various friends and relatives of the Arnold Harold Galvin family in the 1930s. Many of the scenes include buildings in and around Lincoln and Hastings, Nebraska. Of special interest is footage of the building of Kingsley Dam, Holdrege’s annual Turkey Day celebration, and Holdrege’s Western Auto Store.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
