BACKGROUND NOTE



The Christian Church of Exeter, Nebraska, was organized in July of 1885, by W.N. Pardee of Geneva, Nebraska. Beginning with a small membership, the congregation soon purchased two lots and erected a building at a cost of $1,400. The Church building was dedicated on October 17, 1886. Regular services were held from this time until July 1, 1956, when the Church was disbanded and the buildings were sold.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of four volumes of Church records on one reel microfilm, relating to the activities of the Christian Church of Exeter, Nebraska, 1885-1957. Included are registers of membership, ministers and church officers, baptisms, marriages and deaths. Also included are minutes of the Church Board, and minutes of the annual meetings. These records were loaned for microfilming in March of 1969.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
