BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Christopher J. Abbott was born near Bird City, Kansas, on October 11, 1889. In 1890 his parents, Arthur and Hannah (Minor) Abbott, moved to a ranch near Hyannis, Nebraska. Educated at Nebraska Wesleyan University, the University of Michigan and the University of Nebraska, Christopher Abbott returned to Hyannis, where he directed his extensive cattle and bank holdings. He owned seven ranches, was president of nine banks and operated an Iowa radio station. Abbott enjoyed flying and operated Prairie Airways in Lincoln and Rocket Air Service in Omaha. He married Ethel Shmitz of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Christopher J. Abbott was killed in a plane crash near Shreveport, Louisiana on January 10, 1954.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of a scrapbook relating to the career of Christopher J. Abbott, prominent Nebraska rancher and banker. The scrapbook includes newspaper and magazine clippings and photographs documenting Abbott’s career. It also includes obituaries and memorials rendered upon his death in 1954.
