BACKGROUND NOTE



The Clinton Neighborhood is located in northeast Lincoln, Nebraska, between the city campus and east campus of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.  The area is bounded by the Burlington Northern railroad tracks to the north, the Missouri Pacific tracks (“X” Street) to the south, the Rock Island tracks to the west and 33rd Street to the east.  Founded in 1966, the Clinton Neighborhood Organization’s purpose is to work for the improvement of the neighborhood economically, socially and environmentally.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of records relating to the Clinton Neighborhood Organization (Lincoln, Nebraska) dating from ca. 1968-2019. The collection includes two scrapbooks as well as minutes of meetings, correspondence, reports, newspaper clippings, photos and other items documenting the history of the Clinton Neighborhood and the activities of the organization. Of particular interest are materials relating to the organization’s opposition to the Northeast Radial project and their support of the Radial Reuse Task Force.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
