BACKGROUND NOTE

On February 10, 1870, the constitution and confession of faith was signed by eight members under leadership of Rev. Marshall Tingley. Rev. Tingley had come to Blair from Sioux City, Iowa, in June of 1869. Dedication of the first building took place on November 22, 1874. By 1887 the church was self supporting and in the same year a parsonage was purchased. In 1890 extensive renovation of the building took place including the excavation of a full basement. Remodeling again took place in 1953. A historical marker erected in 1975 denotes this building as one of the few church structures in Nebraska in use for over 100 years.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
