BACKGROUND NOTE
The Crawford Co-operative Company was established in Crawford, Nebraska, in 1907 for the purpose of “buying, selling, and holding real estate; engaging in the general merchandise business; and buying and selling of all kinds of farm products, poultry, and eggs.” The corporation’s founders were William J.A. Ramm, C.H. Britton, William A. Eversall, Bernard Sorsten, J.H. Hulsemann, and Erwin Kluman. Its governing body consisted of a seven member Board of Directors elected by the firm’s stockholders. Although in the articles of incorporation, only a twenty-five year existence was anticipated, the firm survived until June of 1977. At that time the Board of Directors passed a resolution recommending that the Crawford Co-operative be dissolved.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection of the records of the Crawford Co-operative Company, Crawford, Nebraska, consists of one volume on one reel of microfilm. This record book, dating from 1907-1977, primarily contains records that illustrate the ongoing business activities of the Crawford Co-operative Company. The records include minutes of meetings held by both the Board of Directors and stockholders. Additional information regarding real estate, insurance, taxes, and the corporate building is contained with this volume. Lists of stockholders as well as articles of incorporation and by-laws are also included.
