BACKGROUND NOTE
Born October 13, 1916, at Norton, Kansas, Edith Rapp married Gaylord “Bud” Morse in 1934. The couple moved to Furnas County, Nebraska, where they farmed. The couple eventually moved to Yakima, Washington. Edith (Rapp) Morse died at Yakima, Washington, on July 8, 2000.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one folder containing the diary kept by Edith (Rapp) Morse from 1935-1936. Also included is a typed manuscript by Ivan Kent Steinke entitled, “Depression Era Diary,” based on Morse’s diary. Many of the diary entries describe weather conditions, including dust storms and the flood of the Republican River in 1935. Morse also writes about her daily routines, providing information on domestic life, illness, agriculture and the literature she reads for entertainment. Steinke’s manuscript includes the diary entries along with additional biographical information and footnotes.
