SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of photocopies of correspondence and reports written by or to U.S. Indian Inspector Edward C. Kemble. The materials date from 1877-1880 and concern the Ponca Indian removal from the Old Ponca Agency to Indian Territory. Included in the collection are the minutes of a three-day council held in January of 1877 between the Ponca chiefs, Edward Kemble, and others. The goal of the council was to set criteria for the removal of the Ponca.
