This collection consists of a diary (original and typed transcript) kept by Edward Hawkes, a farmer living in Jefferson County, Nebraska. The diary dates from January 1 to December 31, 1875. In brief entries, Hawkes records personal expenses, work performed, social and community activities, the weather conditions, etc. Also included is a letter (September 1878) to Hawkes from S.M. Goldsberry describing the area around Soldier Creek, Kansas.
