BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Known as the unofficial historian of Hall County, Emil Roeser, son of Oscar and Minna (Stolley) Roeser was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on June 30, 1887. He attended Grand Island public schools and also studied at the Grand Island Baptist College.
Emil Roeser was married to Frieda Detlefsen in 1911. He became manager of his father’s grocery business and also joined his father in an accounting business. Emil began his own accounting firm in 1939, from which he retired in 1963.
Long interested in local history, Roeser was instrumental in the founding of the Hall County Historical Society. He served as the organization’s president for several years. He died in Grand Island on July 14, 1982.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of five manuscript items. These reminiscences, written by Emil Roeser, describe a few incidents in Grand Island and Hall County, including the murders of two local men and a story about Thomas Goodchild, African American barber of Grand Island.
