SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The manuscript portion of this collection consists of a two-part autobiography by Eugene W. Babcock; a one-page reminiscence about the visit of Halley’s Comet in 1910; two school certificates; and a clipping about Babcock’s sixtieth wedding anniversary. The reminiscence discusses Babcock’s childhood in western Nebraska, farming and ranching, a cattle drive, his experiences as an educator, and his service in World War II. All items are photocopies; the originals are not in the NSHS collections.
The photo component [RG5198.PH] consists of three images of Babcock in his U.S. Navy uniform, including a formal portrait, and a picture with his daughter, Geraldine.
Note: A collection of items relating to Babcock’s military service is housed at the Nebraska History Museum. Not all artifacts are on display; researchers must call for an appointment before scheduling a visit.
