HISTORICAL NOTE



The Congregational Church was organized in September of 1885, the first church in Hay Springs. Services were held in a tent until a building was constructed in 1886. From 1929 to 1947 this building was used as the City Library, and the basement was rented by the Zion Lutheran Church which purchased it in 1947.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection of the records of Hay Springs, Nebraska, First Congregational Church consists of one reel of microfilm containing one volume of records dating from 1907-1935. This volume contains the register of members and minutes of meetings. It was loaned for microfilming by the Nebraska Conference of the United Church of Christ in June of 1982.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
