BACKGROUND NOTE
According to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, George W. Johnson of Fort Benton, Montana, was a cowboy with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West from at least 1896 to 1898. The documents in this collection indicate Johnson might have joined the show as early as 1891.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of four pieces of correspondence, 1894-1896 and undated. Three of the letters/notes attest to Johnson’s tenure with the Wild West Company. Two are signed by W. F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody. Another letter written from Cody invites Johnson to rejoin the Wild West in 1896.
