SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of fifteen letters, dating from 1867-1869, written to Henry Grosvenor Eldredge. All but one of the letters were written by men who were friends and had been co-workers of Eldredge at the Winnebago Agency at Winnebago, Nebraska. Some correspondents include Will Clapp, Bradford Porter, Charles H. Potter, and John Taffe, a U.S. congressman from Nebraska. The letters discuss their daily lives; local happenings in Winnebago (including the development of the village); and various problems at the agency, including its relation with the federal government.
