BACKGROUND NOTE

The Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lodgepole was established in August of 1886, by a group of German families who settled in Cheyenne County, near what was once the rural post office of Weyerts. A succession of sod and frame structures were used as church buildings until a new frame church was completed in 1912. In 1954 the present brick structure was dedicated. Services were conducted in the German language until 1925 when English was adopted.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of two volumes of records of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lodgepole, Nebraska, 1886-1950. The first volume contains very early records of the congregation including the constitution and protocol as well as early minutes. Volume 2 is the church register listing members, marriages, baptisms, deaths, and other vital records. A group of loose documents, including some printed church histories, makes up the remainder of the collection. Most of the records and papers are written in German.

These records were loaned for microfilming in 1976.
