BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Born in New York in 1844, Judson Percival was living with his family in Michigan in 1850.  By 1860 the Percival family had moved to Illinois.  Judson Percival served with the 8th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War.  After the war Judson settled in Pawnee County, Nebraska.  He married Amanda Schnepp on May 30, 1872.  The couple had seven children.  Judson Percival died on January 3, 1924 and is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Pawnee County, Nebraska.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of one folder containing various reminiscences written by Judson Percival in 1917.  The reminiscences describe pioneer years in Pawnee County, Nebraska.  Several brief histories of several school districts (numbers 5, 16 and 21) are also included.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
