BACKGROUND NOTE



Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 by Theodore Vail, president of American Telephone & Telegraph; Horace Moses, president of Strathmore Paper Co.; and Senator Murray Crane of Massachusetts. Its first program, JA Company Program, was offered to high school students on an after-school basis. In 1975, the organization entered the classroom with the introduction of Project Business for the middle grades. Junior Achievement strives to provide skills and knowledge to young people to ensure their economic success.  Programs target several core content areas including work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.  Junior Achievement serves over ten million students in more than one hundred countries world-wide.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of one box containing records of Junior Achievement of Lincoln.  The records date from 1972 to 1975 and include business project reports, banquet programs, conference materials, newsletters, manuals and miscellany.  The last two folders contain materials relating to the national Junior Achievement program.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
