BACKGROUND NOTE



Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on February 6, 1897, Lumir Splichal worked as a printer for the Lincoln Journal Star and The Journal Printing Company for forty years.  He also played in several local dance orchestras, including the Lincoln Bohemian Dance Band and the W.O.W. Orchestra.  Splichal died on July 26, 1985 and is buried in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was survived by his wife, Charlotte, and four children.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of one folder of materials relating to Lumir Splichal and his career as a local musician.  Included are two sheets of letterhead stationary for the Lincoln Bohemian Dance Band and Lumir Splichal with his W.O.W. Orchestra; one package of sheet music for Linger Awhile (fox trot); and one poster and two broadsides advertising Splichal’s dance orchestras.  All items in the collection date from around 1935.
