BACKGROUND NOTE
John G. Matheson, son of Murdock & Elize Matheson was born in Scotland. He came to Stanton County in 1869. His homestead was located in 24-24-3, and besides farming he later engaged in stock buying and the mercantile business. He served as Postmaster at Canton, near Pilger. He was County Commissioner of Stanton County from 1887-1882 and State Representative of Stanton County in the Nebraska State Legislature in 1891.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of five ledgers dating from 1896-1906 relating to the business affairs of the Matheson Implement Company.
