Records:  1879-1880

Lincoln, Lancaster County, Neb.:   Hotel

Size:  1 volume

The Metropolitan Hotel, situated at the northwest corner of 10th and O Streets, underwent frequent changes of management. The Lincoln City Directory for 1879-1880 lists the proprietors as Messrs. Taylor and Caldwell. The directory for 1880-1881 gives A. Tuxbury as the proprietor, and entries in the book indicate that he probably was the manager at the time covered in this ledger, which contains entries dated June of 1879 through June of 1880.

This collection consists of one volume, a ledger, showing the financial records of the Metropolitan Hotel dating from 1879-1880. These records relate mainly to expenditures for supplies, but also show some personal accounts of guests at the Hotel.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
