BACKGROUND NOTE



Originally formed in 1934 as the Missouri Valley Broadcasters Association, the organization changed the name to Nebraska Broadcasters Association (NBA) in 1936.  The purpose of the organization was to promote the best interests of the radio and television broadcast industry in Nebraska.  The NBA continues to work towards this purpose by optimizing the business and regulatory environment in which the broadcast industry operates.  The NBA also strives to increase respect and credibility of broadcasting in the state and helps individual broadcast stations to better serve the public.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of one box of records relating to the Nebraska Broadcasters Association.  Included in the collection are materials relating to yearly service award entries dating from 1974 to 1977.  Also included are annual convention booklets, 1964-1974, and NBA newsletters dating from 1971 to 1982.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
