BACKGROUND NOTE

A group of educational secretaries and office workers met in Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 22, 1964 to organize a State Chapter of the National Association of Educational Secretaries. The Nebraska Educational Secretaries Association received its charter on July 20, 1964. The purpose of the organization is “to elevate the standards of the educational office personnel” and “to provide understanding of the relationship between school and community so that increasingly efficient service may be rendered to our educational system.” The organization changed its name to the Nebraska Educational Office Personnel Association (NEOPA) in 1977-1978. Then, in 1995, the organization became known as the Nebraska Educational Office Professionals Association.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
