BACKGROUND NOTE
The Nebraska History Network first began forming in June of 1984. The group was initially called the Association of Nebraska Historical Organizations. After several meetings and a decision to change the name, the Nebraska History Network established their articles of incorporation on November 3, 1984. The objective of the organization was to “unite groups and individuals which have a mutual interest in preserving and developing Nebraska’s historical resources. The Network will provide a forum for an exchange of ideas and information among members and a means of educating the general public on local history and related issues.”
By the late 1990s membership interest had fallen. Several other organizations had been performing similar activities, including the Nebraska Museums Association and the Nebraska State Historical Society’s Field Services department. Membership of the Nebraska History Network eventually voted to dissolve the organization in March of 1999.
