BACKGROUND NOTE
The Nemaha County Bible Society was established on March 8, 1859, at Brownville, Nebraska. The first meeting of the Society was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Brownville. According to the Society’s constitution, the object of the Society was to “promote the circulation of the Holy Scriptures, ‘without note or comment,’ and, in English, those of the commonly received version.”
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of one item, a record book for the Nemaha County Bible Society. The front of the volume contains the constitution and minutes and proceedings of the Society. Entries date from 1859-1868. The back of the volume contains a list of members and subscribers to the Society from 1859.
