N.C. Nielsen, a Danish immigrant, settled on a homestead and tree claim north of Cozad, Nebraska. No other biographical information is available.


This collection consists of one farm record book kept by N.C. Nielsen from 1879-1924. The book records farm expenses, income, and acreage production. Entries document items purchased or sold and what the items cost. Crop production is listed by type of crop and field location in a separate section. In 1924 Nielsen’s son-in-law, T.C. Jensen, began keeping the book. His entries continue until 1961. The record book was loaned for microfilming in February of 1962. The NSHS does not hold the original record book.

It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
