BACKGROUND NOTE



The national Parent Teacher Association was founded in 1897.  Major accomplishments of the national group included the creation kindergarten classes; child labor laws, hot lunch programs; and mandatory immunizations.  The national PTA organized the Lincoln Council as a part of the Nebraska state association in March of 1922.  The PTA strives to better the lives of children through programs geared towards education, health and safety.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of records of the Lincoln Council PTA.  Included in the collection are twenty-one scrapbooks, six minute books and one volume of financial records.  These materials relate to the history of the Lincoln Council of the PTA., its membership and its activities dating from 1922 to 1988.



Note:  The archives holds the records of the Nebraska Congress of Parents and Teachers [RG4111] as well as various other local PTA organizations.  See the library for various publications relating to the PTA.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
