BACKGROUND NOTE



Pleasant Valley Cemetery, also known as the German Lutheran Cemetery, is located in the northeast corner of NW ¼ of Sec. 14, Twp. 22, Range 1W of Madison County.  The earliest burial recorded for the cemetery is that of Wilhelm Jauch, who died September 26, 1885.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of a single oversized folder containing cemetery records.  Compiled in 1994, the folder contains a blue-line diagram of Pleasant Valley Cemetery’s lot owners and a blue-line sheet listing burials by lot and name.  The name of the deceased and birth and death dates are provided.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
