BACKGROUND NOTE
This organization had its origin in a May 23, 1953, meeting of five Nebraska chapters of the National Secretaries Association (NSA). By 1955, in conjunction with several South Dakota chapters of NSA, an organization known as the Nebraska-South Dakota Division of the National Secretaries Association (International) had evolved. The stated goals of this entity were to 1) serve as a clearinghouse for information between the NSA and its local chapters within the division, 2) unite the efforts of the local chapters toward greater progress, and 3) enforce local chapter compliance with the NSA by-laws as well as standards and objectives. All chapters of the National Secretaries Association (International) located within the boundaries of Nebraska and South Dakota constituted the membership. Within ten years the division grew to nine chapters and over 300 members total.
