BACKGROUND NOTE
Born in Chester, Massachusetts, on October 27, 1844, Sarah Alice Snow married Archibald Froman at Whately, Massachusetts, on November 9, 1860. The couple moved to Nebraska and settled in Seward County. They lived in Nebraska through at least the 1880s. The 1900 census shows that they were living in Oklahoma. Archibald died in 1911. Sarah Froman died on March 10, 1927. The couple is buried in Kingfisher Cemetery at Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of six letters written by [Sarah] Alice Snow Froman of Seward County, Nebraska, in 1878 and 1882. The letters are written to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.V. Snow of Chester, Massachusetts. In the letters, Froman describes setting up housekeeping in Nebraska; personal finances including information regarding rent, and purchases of food, farm animals and furniture; her religious life; and farming practices. Froman often compares her life to that in the East where she was raised.
