SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection contains a typescript of a letter that appeared in the Sangamo Journal, Springfield, Illinois, July 23, 1846, written by Mrs. George Donner, from the California Company. She writes of her impressions of the overland journey (as of June 16, 1846), of camp life and of wagon travel. There is also a letter written by her daughter, Eliza P. Donner Houghton of Los Angeles, to George Hansen of Fairbury, Nebraska, dated July 31, 1912. She thanks Hansen for a letter he sent to her concerning her mother, Tamsen Donner, and facts it contained about the Donner Party tragedy.
