BACKGROUND NOTE

Born in Newark, New Jersey on March 24, 1918, William F. Rapp graduated from Rutgers University and did postgraduate research in entomology at the University of Illinois.  He married Janet L. Cooper in New Jersey in 1944.  Janet studied botany and entomology at the University of Illinois as well.  The Rapps moved to Crete, Nebraska in 1947 where they taught at Doane College.  William and Janet formed the Archem Corporation in Crete along with Philip and Norma Anderson.  It was an agricultural development company that developed equipment and processes for improving agricultural product storage and monitoring methods, pest control, etc.

After several years Philip Anderson started his own company, Feed Service Corporation.  William got a job as an entomologist with the Nebraska State Department of Health.  Janet went to work for Feed Service Corporation of Crete, serving as director of their research laboratory.  The Feed Service Corporation produced the Morea brand of liquid feeds.  Janet (Cooper) Rapp died on April 26, 1998.  After Janet’s death, William married Jeanette Vincent.  Jeanette died January 9, 2013 in Pittsfield, New York.  William F. Rapp died on March 13, 2013.  He is buried in Blue Valley Cemetery at Crete, Nebraska, next to his first wife.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of two boxes of papers relating to William F. Rapp and Janet L. Cooper Rapp.  The first box contains various papers, articles and reprints by William F. Rapp.  Most of the articles and reprints relate to pest control methods for mosquitoes, flies and other pests.  A partial listing of Rapp’s publications is available in folder 1.

The second box contains materials relating to Archem Corporation and Feed Service Corporation, both of Crete Nebraska.  The Archem Corporation materials consist of technical reports, while the Feed Service Corporation materials consist of Morea Liquid Feed product information, company newsletters, and general background information.  The last folder contains various biographical information about William F. and Janet L. (Cooper) Rapp.  The materials in this collection date from 1946 to 2013.
