BACKGROUND NOTE
Born December 20, 1815, in Scott County, Kentucky, William Payne was the oldest of six sons born to Robert and Mariah Payne. He was married three times; first to Mary Robinson, then Albina Viley, and finally to Mrs. Ellen Potts. From the three marriages he had three sons and five daughters. Following the Civil War, Payne moved his family to Nebraska City, Nebraska. He lived in Nebraska City until his death on August 22, 1887.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of one folder containing family correspondence from William Payne, 1872-1874, and William’s daughter, Eliza R. Payne, 1871, of Nebraska City to George Viley Payne (William’s son) of Scott County, Kentucky. The correspondence discusses family news, local happenings, etc. Also included is family history information compiled by Mrs. William H. Coffman of Louisville, Kentucky.
