BACKGROUND NOTE
Born in Shelby County, Indiana, on October 18, 1831, William Keeling studied medicine at Greensburg, Indiana. He married Marietta Mitchell in 1851, but she died of typhoid in 1855. Keeling then moved to Winterset, Iowa, to practice medicine. He stayed in Iowa for two years and then moved to Nemaha, Nebraska. Keeling married Marion Spiers in 1858, and the couple had five children. Dr. Keeling continued to practice medicine in Nemaha until 1863, when the family moved to Indiana. They stayed for two years before returning to Nemaha, Nebraska. He continued to practice medicine at Nemaha for the rest of his life. Dr. William W. Keeling died at Nemaha, Nebraska, on March 18, 1918.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one folder containing a handwritten autobiographical sketch by Dr. William W. Keeling of Nemaha, Nebraska. The sketch covers his early life in Indiana, attending medical school, practicing medicine in Iowa, and moving to Nemaha, Nebraska, in 1857. The sketch goes on to cover his marriage and family, attending the Eclectic Medical Institute in Cincinnati, and how the area around Nemaha had changed over time.
