BACKGROUND NOTE
Born at Carlyle, Illinois, on April 23, 1819, Zenas Benjamin Turman served as a Methodist minister in Nebraska, for many years. Rev. Turman served as the preacher in charge of the newly established Salt Creek Mission in 1857 and preached the first sermon in Lancaster County. As a circuit preacher, he visited many communities, including Wahoo, Pawnee, Tecumseh, Nebraska City, Beatrice, Fontanelle, Tekemah, etc. He lived in Nemaha for five years before retiring from the ministry in 1871 and moving to Pawnee County, settling near Table Rock. Zenas B. Turman died on October 6, 1896. He is buried in Table Rock Cemetery.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of one folder containing letters and writings by Zenas B. Turman. The writings relate to early Methodist ministers in Nebraska. Typescript copies of the writings are also included.
