Born on March 21, 1868, at Rushville, Illinois, Charles A. Lord came to Nebraska with his parents shortly after his birth. He attended high school at Salem, Nebraska, and married Nellie Malone at Salem on December 27, 1891. The couple moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, around 1908. Lord established and managed a car dealership in Lincoln. He also owned two farms and an orchard near Peru, Nebraska. Lord was a progressive Democrat and close, personal friend of William Jennings Bryan. Charles A. Lord died in a car accident near Adams, Nebraska, on November 10, 1936.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one folder containing photocopies of two letters written by William Jennings Bryan to Charles Lord. The letters date from 1896 and 1922. Also included in the collection is a photocopy of a story about William Jennings Bryan written by Lord, and several photocopies of newspaper articles about Charles Lord’s death.
