HISTORICAL NOTE
D. Charles Bristol, or “Omaha Charlie,” traded with and lived among Native Americans in Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Nebraska. This collection relates to Native Americans and the show in which Bristol displayed his collection of Native American materials.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The manuscript portion of the collection consists of a scrapbook, 1891-1893, of letters, clippings, etc., relating to “Omaha Charlie,” his show, and his interest in Native Americans. The scrapbook also contains some original Native American artwork. The original scrapbook is restricted for preservation. Interested researchers are asked to use the reference copies.
The photograph component [RG0798.PH] of the collection consists of photographic prints and negatives, 1880s-1890s. Included are photographs of D. Charles Bristol, Native Americans, and performers from Wild West and vaudeville shows.
