BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Grace M. Morley, daughter of Augustus and Sarah Morley, was born October 8, 1892.  She was a student, musician and teacher in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she lived most of her life.  Grace received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University School of Music, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1926; a Bachelor of Art in Education from the University of Nebraska’s Teacher College in 1927; and a Masters of Arts from the University of Nebraska Graduate College in 1934.  She was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Pi Kappa Lambda, Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Lambda Theta, Kappa Delta, and Chapter G PEO (Athens, Ohio).  Grace Morley died in Lincoln, Nebraska, on October 25, 1985 and is buried in Wyuka Cemetery.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection of papers of Grace Morley is arranged in six series: (1) Correspondence, 1886-1960; (2) Programs and Pamphlets, 1921-1969; (3) Diaries, 1881 and 1888; (4) Financial, 1888-1970; (5) Books, 1896-1980; and (6) Miscellany, 1881-1939.

The materials of this collection relate to the life of Grace MacGregor Morley.  There are materials here that also relate to Morley’s family.  In Series 1, Correspondence, there are letters that date back to before Grace’s birth.  In Series 3 there are two diaries that date before her birth.  In Series 5 there is a book, Growth of Discriminative Listening to Music, which was written by Grace Morley.
