BACKGROUND NOTE
Born in Bohemia in 1873, Lewis Slama immigrated to the United States and arrived in Humboldt, Richardson County, Nebraska, in 1894. Slama owned a jewelry store and then an automobile dealership. He married Emma Karas at Pawnee City, Nebraska, on September 12, 1899. Lewis Slama died on April 1, 1958. Emma Slama died on August 8, 1970. Both are buried in the Bohemian Cemetery in Richardson County, Nebraska.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one item, a letter written by Lewis Slama, Humboldt, Nebraska, to C.C. Nemechek, Abilene, Kansas. The letter, dated January 15, 1909, discusses Slama’s recent work buying, selling and fixing automobiles. He mentions several different models that he had recently purchased, sold or worked on. He also mentions wanting to sell his jewelry business and expand his automobile business.
