BACKGROUND NOTE
On March 13, 1932, a group of 53 librarians of Lincoln, Nebraska, met in order to form a library organization. They applied to the American Library Association for permission to establish a local chapter in Lincoln. Approval came on April 25, 1932, and the Library Chapter of the American Library Association was begun. Its objectives were “to promote acquaintance and cooperation among Lincoln librarians and increase interest in state and national library service.”
In 1954, the American Library Association dissolved its local chapters saying that states were authorized to establish local chapters. The Lincoln chapter then became simply the Lincoln Library Association.
