SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of one letter written from Omaha, Nebraska, by Walker T. Nichols.  Dated January 29, 1860, Nichols writes to his sister and discusses going West to the mines.  He talks about his wife, Amalia, getting very sick with typhoid fever, wishing she could return to the East for her health.  He also discusses having to pay in gold to cover the doctor’s bills and medicine.  Amalia Nichols continues the letter and talks about her health, as well as feeling heartbroken over the death of their baby.
