It’s time to celebrate President Lincoln’s 214th birthday! Activities include Chris Sayre playing live music from the mid-1800s, Civil War reenactors and displays, family activities, and birthday cake!
Festivities start at 11:00 a.m., with performances and activities scheduled throughout the day ending at 3:00 p.m.
The Abraham Lincoln Birthday Celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum’s second floor. The event includes:
- 11 am – 12 pm – Chris Sayre will play live music from the mid-1800s on various instruments. Sayre has performed at every Abe Lincoln Birthday Celebration.
- 12:30 pm -1:45 pm – Musical performances by Chris Sayre
- 2:30 pm – 3 on – Sayre will close with more music
There will also be a special Abe Lincoln Impersonators Contest, with judging starting at 1 pm. All ages are welcome, and prizes will be awarded. A program at 1:45 p.m. will include acknowledgments, the Impersonators Contest prize presentation, and the presentation of a birthday cake to President Lincoln.
The Celebration will include activities for children and free refreshments, including birthday cake. It will also feature Civil War reenactors and displays as well as exhibits from local author Susan Dittman; Homestead National Historical Park in Beatrice; and Terry Lowe, a descendant of Thaddeus Lowe, Chief Aeronaut for President Lincoln’s Civil War Balloon Corps.
Also on display at The Nebraska History Museum will be “American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith” from the Smithsonian Institution. This fascinating exhibition examines our government’s founding and the continuing story of America’s bold experiment in a government “of, by, and for the people.” Featuring engaging multimedia experiences, immersive design, and artifacts from the Smithsonian Institution, the exhibition will show that our democracy relies on our active participation to form a “more perfect union.”
