Christmas at The Rock

Christmas at The Rock

Christmas is coming! What better way to celebrate than the way the settlers did in the nineteenth century?

Join us at the Chimney Rock Ethel and Christopher J. Abbott Visitor Center for some holiday cheer from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm MST on Saturday, December 7, 2024! Admission is free for everyone.

Enjoy cookies and candy with your choice of refreshments from coffee, tea, and festive punch while sitting near a big “fireplace” and listening to some holiday music. There will also be an opportunity to play with 19th-century-style toys and games, grab a coloring page or word search, and compete against others in historical and holiday trivia!

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
