European Settlement in Western Nebraska

What brought so many Europeans to Western Nebraska and how did they influence the region?

Join us at the Fort Robinson History Center on Saturday, July 11 at 1 PM MT for a special presentation on European settlement in Western Nebraska.

Becci Thomas, Museum Director of the Knights Museum and Sandhills Center, will explore the stories behind why so many European immigrants chose to journey to, and ultimately call home, this area of Nebraska. Her talk will discuss the forces that drew settlers westward and highlight the lasting contributions these families brought to the state. Admission to the event is free.

*Note: Fort Robinson is a state park requiring a pass from Nebraska Game and Parks to enter. Click here to purchase a park permit.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
