September Noon History Bites at the Museum Discussed Univ. of Nebr. Band Director’s Uniform

Museum visitors gather to hear Terry Rush present about University of Nebraska Band Director Jack Snider’s band uniform.

We had a great turnout for Noon History Bites at the Museum yesterday! The title of the talk was “University of Nebraska Band Director’s Uniform.” It was presented by Terry Rush. Rush was a former student of and fellow musician with  UNL Band Director Jack Snider. Among the dozen or so people at the talk, there were Husker fans, music teachers, and a UNL freshman who is now performing with the Cornhusker Marching band. Terry Rush shared information and touching stories about Jack Snider. He also brought the marching band hat that belongs to the uniform on view in Nebraska Unwrapped. It has been presented as a gift to the NSHS from Bob Snider, Jack’s son. Join us for our October Noon History Bites on Monday, October 3 from 12-12:15 p.m. NSHS architect David Murphy will highlight his research findings on the early pioneer William Quesenbury who traveled on the Cherokee and Oregon-California trails and sketched landmarks such as Nebraska’s Chimney Rock in the 1850s.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
