Join us on June 7th for a momentous occasion as we celebrate unveiling the remarkable Willa Cather Statue in Statuary Hall, Washington D.C. This free event is a tribute to one of Nebraska’s most beloved literary figures and a moment of pride for the entire nation.

The live stream of the unveiling ceremony will commence promptly at 10 am, capturing the awe-inspiring moments as the statue of Willa Cather is revealed. Designed by sculptor and artist Littleton Alston, the statue captures the essence of Willa Cather’s spirit, paying homage to her immense contributions to American literature.

Following the unveiling, we invite you to join us for a special discussion featuring historian and University of Nebraska-Kearney professor Dr. Nathan Tye. Dr. Tye, who has studied Willa Cather’s life and works, will delve into the significance of Willa Cather to Nebraska’s cultural and literary landscape. About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
