Yee Haw! It’s Rodeo Week in Nebraska. Today’s Throwback Thursday Photo features Shadey James on Grasshopper the Nebraska’s Big Rodeo in Burwell, ca. 1925. The Burwell Rodeo began in September 1921 and became so popular by 1929 the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce organized special trains from the Capitol City that carried nearly 400 people including Governor Arthur J. Weaver to the rodeo. After three days of competition, the $500 cash prize for the best all around cowboy was split evenly between Billy Bishop and Rube Roberts.
